Jacqueline Kennedy hated wearing hats, and only did so due to the protocol of her husband's office as President. Hat shapes changed to accomodate the larger bouffant hairdos of the time, and we see many bubble and Breton styles.

More beautiful hats -thank-you! It really is a shame that hats became less popular. I think that is has been part of the slobification of society that I find so frustrating!
My Mum just sent me her 1964 Dell pocketbook "The Hairdo Handbook" with all the setting patterns for the more bouffant hairdos you mention and I had my hair done yesterday and my stylist still cringes every time she sees me put a hat on my freshly styled do!
What a beautiful collection of hats. I personally have never felt comfortable in hats because my head is so darn big. On my latest post I have photos of a dress my mother wore in 1963 when she became an American citizen and my daughter now wears that dress. You've gotta love timeless fashion!
